Best AI Visibility Tools in 2026: A Comparison From an Agency That Doesn’t Sell One

The best AI visibility tools in 2026 are the ones that track the engines your buyers actually use, show which sources those engines cite, and report prompt-level results you can act on. For most teams that means Ahrefs Brand Radar or the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit if they already run an SEO suite, and Peec AI, Otterly.AI or AthenaHQ if they want a dedicated tracker.

Most rankings for this keyword are published by the vendors themselves, and most of them put their own product first. We don’t sell a tracking tool, and we left out any vendor that also sells agency services, so the comparison below has no product of ours to protect.

Every price in this article was checked on the vendor’s own pricing page in September 2026. The pricing in this category changes quickly, so treat the figures as a starting point and confirm them before you buy.

What Is an AI Visibility Tool?

An AI visibility tool runs a fixed set of prompts through AI engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, then records whether your brand is mentioned, whether your pages are cited, and how you compare with competitors. It does for AI answers what a rank tracker does for search results.

The difference from rank tracking is that AI answers change from one run to the next. A tool has to sample the same prompt repeatedly and report a rate, such as the share of answers that mention you, rather than a single position.

Most tools report some combination of four metrics: mentions, citations, share of voice against named competitors, and sentiment. The better ones also show which third-party domains the engines cite, which tells you where to earn coverage.

How Do the Best AI Visibility Tools Compare?

The eight tools below all track brand mentions and citations across more than one AI engine, and none of them sells done-for-you agency services. Entry prices run from $29 a month to enterprise contracts, and engine coverage is the biggest difference between them.

Which AI Visibility Tool Should You Choose?

The right tool depends mostly on what you already pay for. A team with an Ahrefs or Semrush subscription gets AI tracking inside the suite it already uses, and a team without one gets more depth per dollar from a dedicated tracker.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

ahref-dashboard

Ahrefs Brand Radar builds its prompt set from Ahrefs’ keyword database, so the questions it tracks are based on real search demand rather than invented prompts. Custom prompts come with every paid Ahrefs plan, and the wider AI Visibility Index starts at $199 a month. It also tracks mentions on YouTube, TikTok and Reddit, which few trackers cover.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

SEMRUSH AI Visibility

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month per domain and covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Its strength is that share of voice, sentiment and prompt research sit next to Semrush’s existing keyword and site audit data. There is no free trial for the toolkit itself.

SE Ranking

se-ranking

SE Ranking’s SE Visible is a standalone AI visibility dashboard from $99 a month, and SE Ranking’s core SEO plan at $129 a month already includes 100 tracked prompts a day. It is the most affordable way to run SEO and AI tracking inside one tool, and its agency add-on supports white-label reports.

Profound

profound-dashboard

Profound offers a free trial and then moves brands to custom enterprise pricing, with coverage of up to nine engines including Claude, Copilot and DeepSeek. It also reports prompt volumes and tracks AI crawler visits to your site. It suits large brands that need depth and have the budget for an annual contract.

Peec AI

peec-ai

Peec AI starts at $95 a month for 50 prompts across three engines of your choice, with unlimited users on every paid plan. Its gap analysis lists the sources that cite your competitors but not you, which is the most directly usable output in this group.

Otterly.AI

otterly-ai

Otterly.AI has the lowest entry price in the group at $29 a month for 15 prompts. It covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and AI Overviews, with Gemini, Claude and AI Mode available as paid add-ons, and it connects to Looker Studio for reporting.

Scrunch

scrunch-ai

Scrunch starts at $250 a month for 125 prompts and four engines. Its distinguishing feature is its agent experience platform, which serves AI crawlers a version of your site structured for them, alongside the usual tracking.

AthenaHQ

athenahq

AthenaHQ has a free plan covering five engines, and its $295 plan tracks 11, including Claude, Grok and Meta AI. It prices by credits, where one credit equals one AI response, which makes costs predictable for teams that know how many prompts they need.

How Do You See Your AI Visibility?

You see your AI visibility by tracking a fixed set of buyer prompts across several AI engines over time and recording how often your brand is mentioned or cited. A single manual check in ChatGPT tells you very little, because answers vary between runs and between engines.

We ran this check on our own site. According to Ahrefs data pulled on 24 September 2026, creativeformore.com was cited 96 times across 45 distinct pages in AI answers. Google AI Mode accounted for 28 of those citations, Perplexity for 27 and Copilot for 23, while ChatGPT accounted for none.

A tool that tracked ChatGPT alone would have reported zero visibility for our site. A tool that tracked AI Mode, Perplexity and Copilot would have shown a site that AI engines already cite regularly. That gap is why engine coverage belongs at the top of any buying checklist.

What Features Matter Most When Comparing AI Visibility Tools?

Engine coverage, prompt source and citation analysis matter more than dashboard design or the number of charts. A tool that misses the engine your buyers use will give you a wrong answer however well it presents it.

  1. Engine coverage. Check which engines are included at the price you will actually pay, since several tools add Gemini, Claude or AI Mode only on higher tiers.
  2. Prompt source. Prompts built from real search demand, as Ahrefs does, reflect what buyers ask. Prompts you write yourself reflect what you assume they ask.
  3. Citation source analysis. The list of third-party domains an engine cites for your category shows where coverage would change the answer.
  4. Competitor share of voice. A mention rate means little without the same figure for the brands you compete with.
  5. Market and language settings. Brands selling across several countries need to run prompts by location, because answers for Singapore, Japan and the US differ.
  6. Pricing model. Per-prompt, per-credit and per-domain pricing produce very different bills once you track several markets.

How Do You Increase Your AI Visibility Once You Can Measure It?

You increase AI visibility by publishing content that engines can extract and cite, and by earning mentions on the third-party sites those engines already trust. The tracking tool tells you which prompts and sources to work on, and the improvement comes from the content and coverage that follow.

Original data is one of the strongest levers. According to the GEO study by researchers at Princeton University and partners (KDD 2024), adding statistics and cited sources to content improved its visibility in generative engine responses by up to 40%. Structure matters as well: pages that answer the question in the first sentences of each section are easier for engines to quote.

This is the work our Generative Engine Optimisation team does after the measurement is in place. It sits on top of a sound SEO content strategy, because Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode still draw heavily on pages that rank organically.

Are AI Visibility Tools Accurate?

AI visibility tools are directionally reliable but not exact, because AI answers vary between runs, users, locations and logged-in states. The figures are most useful as trends measured the same way over several months.

Tools also collect data differently. Some query engines through official APIs, some capture the interface a logged-out user sees, and some estimate volume from search data. Two tools can report different mention rates for the same brand, so it’s better to choose one tool and track it consistently than to compare numbers across vendors.

We use Ahrefs in our own AI stack for this reason. Keeping keyword research, rank tracking and AI citation data in one place means every number is collected the same way.

If you’re trying to work out where your brand stands in AI answers across Singapore, Japan and the US, a visibility baseline across the engines your buyers use is the right first step.
